Qualifications:

Essential: Diploma or above in Computer Science, information technology or Engineering, related discipline; Experience of computer systems, including Windows based desktops; Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; Wide range of IT skills; Good understanding of PC and hardware, operating systems and applications including maintenance and repair procedures; Understanding of LAN/WAN communications; Microsoft Office products; Understanding of network printing; Good problem solving skills; Use and development of Computer based services; Provision of IT support; Engineering related electric device; Good English (spoken and written) is essential; Willingness to work flexibly and to provide some out of hours support; Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team; Good organisational skills; Must be able and prepared to work under pressure; Ability to lift/carry IT/AV equipment.

Desirable: Bachelor degree; Experience of developing training materials and providing training Knowledge of diverse IT resources; Linux experience; Good understanding of ITIL; Experience of supporting high performance workstations; Knowledge of plotter; Familiar with Engineering software, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pro-E etc.; Familiar with Customer Services; Experience of planning & delivering information skills programmes; Broad interest in IT; Ability to gain new technical IT skills quickly in a rapidly changing discipline; Relevant qualifications in IT or equivalent experience for example MCSE.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: To be responsible for the day to day delivery of specific services including front-line support for use of all IS computing facilities for Faculty of Science and Engineering; First point of contact for en nquiries from staff & students in engineering building; Purchase, installation, testing, upgrading & maintenance of computer hardware, Windows/Linux operating systems, servers, software, printers and peripherals equipment for Faculty of Science and Engineering; Maintain and support the computing facilities in the teaching rooms, computer labs and other laboratories; Administration: maintenance of user accounts, backups, inventory of hardware & software, operating system and software licensing, hardware maintenance contract; To provide guidance and consultancy to the wider academic community in the design and to support teaching, administration and learning activities; To keep up to date with hardware and software developments in the field. Attempt through the combination of training and observational skills, to develop and expand the depth and breadth of related knowledge and skills; To integrate network server infrastructure and business computing platforms; Maintaining documentation for PC systems and applications; To assist with induction and Information Skills Training for Academic Staff and students; To ensure that all customers adhere to the regulations about behaviour in order to maintain an acceptable standard and a suitable learning environment in the university; Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed.
